Update infrastructure development policies associated with modern industry
Vietnam is undergoing a period of rapid and sustainable economic development, with continuous innovation in both infrastructure and industry. In this context, updating infrastructure development policies to align with the needs of modern industry is becoming a top priority. In this article, together with RX Tradex, we will explore the specific strategies Vietnam is implementing to link infrastructure with modern industry, along with the challenges and opportunities of updating infrastructure development policies linked to modern industry.
1. Tight linkage between infrastructure and modern industry
In the 21st century, building and maintaining infrastructure not only play a crucial role in providing basic services to the community but also are key factors in economic development. In the context of industries transitioning from traditional to modern models, infrastructure development policies need to be updated to meet the new requirements of industry.
Modern industry imposes many new demands on infrastructure. It not only requires an efficient transportation system but also strong digital infrastructure, sustainable energy systems, and professional logistics services. Specifically:
Infrastructure serves as the foundation for production and business activities. Modern industry demands strong connectivity among various factors such as transportation, energy, and telecommunications.
Comprehensive infrastructure development not only helps reduce transportation costs and increase labor productivity but also attracts investment and promotes the development of industries, especially Industry 4.0.
2. Factors influencing infrastructure development in modern industry
Infrastructure development in modern industry depends on many factors, from economic and social to technological and environmental. The following are some important factors influencing infrastructure development in modern industry:
2.1 Information technology and communication
Modern industry is always influenced by technological innovation. Particularly, the modern industry sector is gradually shifting towards using digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain. Infrastructure needs to lead in the adoption of new technologies, from smart grid systems to automated transportation systems, to help businesses adapt and compete quickly in the international market.
Infrastructure needs to be updated to support the deployment and integration of these technologies into production and management processes. The development of modern industry requires robust telecommunications infrastructure to ensure continuous and reliable connections between devices and systems in the production environment.
2.2 Clean and sustainable energy
Modern industry consumes a large amount of energy and resources. Infrastructure needs to be designed to save and reuse resources while supporting the deployment of renewable energy sources. Vietnam is seeking ways to develop sustainable energy infrastructure while minimizing negative environmental impacts.
Transitioning to renewable, clean energy requires businesses to set high demands for energy infrastructure. Infrastructure development policies need to ensure stable and clean electricity supply to meet the needs of industry. At the same time, infrastructure development must go hand in hand with environmental protection, including reducing air and water pollution, waste management, and biodiversity conservation.
2.3 Transportation and logistics
With rapid economic and industrial growth, transportation is facing significant pressure from increased freight and passenger transportation. Improving transportation infrastructure will be a decisive factor in driving economic development.
This poses a significant challenge for transportation and logistics infrastructure. Policies need to be established to optimize transportation and logistics networks, from roads to railways and ports.
3. Updating the strategy of infrastructure development policy linked to modern industry in Vietnam
Completing infrastructure development policies is not only an important factor but also a strategic step for Vietnam. Resolution No. 13 of the Politburo dated January 16, 2012, clearly outlines the necessity and significance of closely linking infrastructure and modern industry.
Vietnam is seizing opportunities from the Fourth Industrial Revolution to promote the development of modern industry. This includes applying digital technologies to infrastructure management and operations, from smart transportation systems to efficient energy management. Specifically focused on three main groups:
3.1 Large investment in transportation infrastructure
The Politburo emphasizes focusing on investment and early implementation of key infrastructure projects. Committing significant resources to upgrade and build transportation infrastructure, including roads, railways, seaports, and airports. This helps improve connectivity between regions and creates favorable conditions for the transportation of goods and people.
In addition, prioritizing investment resources to complete important expressway routes such as the North-South East route, East-West corridors, and multi-modal transportation networks according to the plan are highlights in Vietnam’s infrastructure development strategy. At the same time, international airports, major seaports, and large inland waterways with high transport demand are also receiving special attention.
Furthermore, the implementation of high-speed railway projects such as the North-South route and the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong, Lang Son – Hanoi, Mong Cai – Hai Phong, HCMC – Can Tho, Bien Hoa – Vung Tau, Thu Thiem – Long Thanh lines marks a new step in improving the quality and efficiency of transportation infrastructure. These are strategic projects that are being strongly invested in to create close and convenient connections between economic regions, from North to South, from inland to coastal areas.
3.2 Development of sustainable energy infrastructure
Vietnam is gradually transitioning to the use of renewable and clean energy sources such as wind and solar power. Policies supporting and encouraging investment in sustainable energy projects are being promoted to meet the increasing demands of industry and the population.
Policies encourage innovation and sustainable development in infrastructure. This supports new technologies and sustainable development projects, while creating conditions for businesses to participate in infrastructure development.
3.3 Digital innovation
Vietnam is vigorously applying digital technology to infrastructure management and operations. This includes using artificial intelligence and big data to optimize infrastructure operations, from traffic management to energy management.
The Politburo has also outlined a new direction in infrastructure development, focusing on building digital infrastructure with advanced and modern technologies. This means developing synchronized national databases, large data centers, and big data centers to create a connected and flexible information system. Ensuring information security is paramount, ensuring that the country’s important data is effectively and securely managed. This not only makes infrastructure management and operations more efficient but also creates favorable conditions for sustainable economic and social development.
4. Conclusion
Completing infrastructure development policies and linking them to modern industry is an important step in Vietnam’s economic development strategy. By investing in and promoting specific measures, Vietnam can create a favorable business environment and promote sustainable and comprehensive development. This article has detailed the strategies Vietnam is implementing to link infrastructure with modern industry, along with the challenges and opportunities of updating infrastructure development policies linked to modern industry.
