Waste treatment technology and a new step in recycling technology

Waste treatment technology and a new step in recycling technology

Although the amount of waste in Vietnam is at the “top” of the world, waste treatment technology has not been paid enough attention. Thus, how is solid waste treatment, industrial waste treatment, microbiological preparation systems for organic waste treatment in advanced countries in the world being interested and developed? Let’s explore this global issue in the article below.

1. Employing waste treatment technology efficiently in certain industries

1.1. Waste treatment in the medical field

The amount of waste generated from the healthcare sector is enormous and the release of hazardous substances into the environment through medical devices, waste products and pharmaceuticals is a global concern. Therefore, in recent years, the management and disposal of medical waste in hospitals has become an issue that receives much attention. Hospitals also propose and advise state agencies on investment and selection of appropriate waste treatment technology.

1.2. Waste treatment of livestock field

. Livestock waste is primarily processed manually to produce fuel and materials for agriculture growth and life.. Filtration and direct irrigation are potential solutions to the long-term environmentally friendly method of utilizing biogas tunnels for waste.

However, with a large amount of waste not treated by thorough waste treatment solutions and technologies, livestock waste is still a big concern of agricultural countries.

1.3. Waste treatment in the electronics field

The process of urbanization, industrialization along with the rapid development of the electronics manufacturing industry makes it one of the sectors with the largest amount of waste in the world. More notable is the presence of environmental contaminants in electronic products such as cadmium in resistors, lead and mercury.

In addition to applying existing recycling solutions, e-waste treatment technologies for components and products that are not recyclable will be a significant challenge for many different industries and countries.

1.4. Industrial waste treatment

Industry is considered the sector with the most concerning amount of waste. These are wastes that are discharged into the environment during the production process of companies or enterprises. Most of them are waste products that affect both humans and living organisms inside the environment.

However, industrial waste is also full of potential to become a source of recycled materials to help provide an inexhaustible source of energy if we know how to apply advanced recycling methods like many developed countries in the world today.

2. Waste treatment technology of developed countries

2.1. Waste treatment technology in Sweden

Sweden uses waste treatment technology to treat huge amounts of garbage from large countries such as the UK, Norway, Ireland, Italy. Not only do they have income from garbage disposal for other countries, they also turn garbage into alternative energy sources.

In Sweden, instead of garbage being disposed of in landfills, it is sent to factories to generate energy. They are then distributed as electricity to homes and businesses.

2.2. Garbage management process in Belgium

Belgium is considered one of the leading countries in the application of waste treatment technology.  In particular, Belgium is also known internationally for its intensive management processes in the collection and calculation of emissions.

Currently, there are 2 extremely advanced waste management processes in Belgium. These are Ecolizer and Green Events.

Ecolizer is a web-based production management system. The system analyzes, calculates production, transportation, energy consumption and waste treatment. As a result, manufacturers can assess the environmental impact of their products.

A web-based event management system similar to Ecolizer is called Green Events. This system helps assess the total amount of waste generated from the event.

2.3. Biotechnology waste treatment in Austria

Austria is a small country but has achieved great achievements in waste treatment. In particular, the most prominent can be mentioned the application of biotechnology to recycle PET plastic.

More specifically, there is an Austrian company that has developed a high-tech solution by using enzymes from a fungus to recycle PET plastic. Under the action of enzymes, PET plastic is broken down into molecules. This is considered an effective solution in the treatment of urban waste before the effects of the current industrialization process.

2.4. Singapore invests in waste incineration technology to generate electricity

Singapore has been recognized as the world’s cleanest nation.. That’s because the  government has always invested in waste treatment technology and has strict regulations in managing and disposing of waste into the environment.

In order to reduce the amount of waste that must be dumped in a landfill Singapore has implemented projects such as investing in the construction of incinerators to generate electricity; clear classification of waste at source; heavy penalties for acts of improper littering; constantly training and encouraging waste recycling.

2.5. Waste treatment technology in Japan

One of the reasons why Japan is always among the cleanest countries in the world is that they are very successful in applying waste treatment technology and operating garbage sorting systems. Besides, people’s awareness of sorting garbage and throwing garbage in the right place is also extremely high.

Despite receiving more than 45 million tons of garbage each year, Japan has successfully developed an efficient garbage disposal system to become one of the cleanest countries in the world. Thanks to the application of CFB technology, the amount of garbage here is thoroughly treated up to 99%.

3. What is the direction for waste treatment in Vietnam?

According to a report by the General Department of Environment of Vietnam, each year about 3.9 tons of PET, LDPE, HDPE and PP plastic waste are collected in Vietnam. In fact, only 33% of all waste is recycled.

According to the report, about 2.62 tons of plastic waste are not recycled each year, leading to a waste of 75% of the material value of plastic – equivalent to $ 2.2 billion – $ 2.9 billion per year. Thereby showing a clear situation: the recycling industry in Vietnam has abundant resources but has not developed adequately.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) was considered to encourage the development of the domestic recycling industry. Seizing this trend and opportunity, large enterprises and corporations in Vietnam such as Coca-Cola or Unilever Vietnam are also racing and making efforts to contribute to waste treatment.

Overall, the recycling industry in Vietnam is still underdeveloped. In the future, it is necessary to review, amend and supplement the legal document system in order to loosen the mechanism and facilitate enterprises to access and gradually switch to applying advanced waste treatment technologies.

4. Waste and Recycling Vietnam 2023

Waste and Recycling Vietnam 2023 is one of the leading exhibition events in the field of waste and industrial recycling in Vietnam. The event is expected to attract hundreds of businesses, experts and managers from all over the country to showcase the latest products, services and technologies in the field of waste management and recycling.

The exhibition gives attendees many opportunities to learn and exchange experiences with leading experts in the industry. It is also an opportunity for managers to evaluate, search and select products, services and technologies that suit their needs, in order to optimize waste and recycling management processes in their businesses.

Don’t miss the chance to attend RX Tradex’s first-ever event in Vietnam on sustainability and waste treatment technologies. You can find additional information and register early here.
